The Amnestic disorders are a group of disorders that involve loss of memories previously established, loss of the ability to create new memories, or loss of the ability to learn new information.
Some people experience difficulty recalling events that happened or facts that they learned before the onset of the amnestic disorder. This type of amnesia is called retrograde amnesia. Other people experience the inability to learn new facts or retain new memories, which is called anterograde amnesia.

| Causes of Amnestic Disorders: |
There are numerous causes of Amnestic Disorders which ranges from trauma to other mental disorders.
Head injury (such as concussion)
Stroke (CVA)
Cerebrovascular disease (disease affecting the blood vessels in the brain)
Accident that involves oxygen deprivation to the brain or interruption of blood flow to the brain may cause amnesia (like ruptured aneurysms).
Tumors in the thalamus and/or hypothalamus
Senile dementia ( Alzheimer's disease)
Wernicke-Korsakoff syndrome (a sequel of thiamine deficiency usually due to severe alcoholism)
Seizures
Encephalitis
Alcoholism
Mental Shock
Emotional trauma
Epilepsy

| Types of Amnesia: |
Anterograde amnesia
Inability to remember ongoing events after the incidence of trauma or the onset of the disease that caused the amnesia. |
Retrograde amnesia
Inability to remember events that occurred before the incidence of trauma or the onset of the disease that caused the amnesia. |
Transient global amnesia
Spontaneous memory loss that can last from minutes to several hours; usually seen in middle-aged to elderly people. |
Emotional/hysterical amnesia
Memory loss caused by psychological trauma, it is a temporary condition. |
Lacunar amnesia
Inability to remember a specific event. |
Korsakoff syndrome
Memory loss caused by chronic alcoholism. |
Posthypnotic amnesia
Memory loss sustained from a hypnotic state; can include inability to recall events that occurred during hypnosis or information stored in long-term memory. |
| Scope of Homeopathy and Line of Treatment: |
Homeopathy can prevent Amnesia if treatment is started in initial stages.
It prevents further progress.
It can reverse the process and memory may come back after holistic treatment on basis of symptom totality.
Prognosis depending on type of Amnesia, it varies from patient to patient depending on number of factors which include its causation, family background, hereditary, socio economic, social, general condition of patient etc. |
